Bring Only The Good Parts

As we grow and experience life we all have things we wish we could leave behind and things and feelings that we wish we could take with us in our next phase of life. Personally, there are experiences and feelings from childhood to undergrad, post grad life and grad school that I wish to bring into my life again. I think we all look back on things from years ago that we wish we still had in our lives and I believe you can you just have to pinpoint the experience and see how it can fit into your life how it is today…may not look exactly the same but you can get close.

Childhood:

What I enjoyed:

I used to be heavy into the creative industries such as making music or writing stories, and I also used to really into playing video games which was a way to not only spend time but to relax as well.

How I will incorporate it into my life now: I am going to dive into creating this podcast series that I have been meaning to work on for awhile as well as working on a podcast with someone I met (stay tuned for that). I am looking into buying a new system…more than likely a PS4 because KH3 is dropping soon!

Undergrad:

What I enjoyed: The best experience I had in undergrad was building my first startup LykeMe with my two co-founders.

How I will incorporate it into my life now: I now know that I will always be someone who will want to be working on some kind of side project or idea…it really helps my creative juices flow and keeps me busy which I like to be from time to time. That is why I am now working on a platform that is related to homelessness called Connecting 2 Communities.

Post Grad:

What I Enjoyed: Moving to D.C and volunteering with an organization called Lunch Bag Social, which helped me be connected to the community that I am new to and grow my network at the same time.

How I will incorporate it into my life now: I am currently going to be on the hunt for an organization that does work around the social causes I care most about which are homelessness and K-12 education and see how I can volunteer my time.

Grad School:

What I enjoyed: I enjoyed being around people who were not from the state or even the same country as me to not only learn about their perspectives on things and create relationships but to also give me a more global way of thinking about things.

How I will incorporate it into my life now:

This is one that I am unsure of how I can recreate it since higher education is unique in this way of bringing people from a variety of different backgrounds and clumping them together with a common goal to learn. So maybe I will find some local meetups or something. As you can see this one is still a work in progress.

In conclusion, just because you are no longer in that space of life anymore does not mean you cant bring some of the good parts with you. I would encourage us all to reflect on what we enjoyed the most about certain phases of life and try to incorporate them into our current life as much as we can.
