What Did You Unlearn?

When you were in elementary school and came home from school one of the first things your parents may ask you is “What did you learn in school today?”. While we are growing up we are very focused on learning about this or learning about that, but when you become an adult you have to start thinking about “What did I unlearn today?”. So below will be some things that I have personally unlearned which you can read as let go in the past year ahead of my 28th birthday.

  • Drinking to drunk and now I look to drink socially
  • Constantly avoiding conflict
  • Saving every dollar I get
  • Being defensive (still working on this) when I am asked a question
  • Assuming ill intent
  • Not opening up to people because I felt like it could one day be used against me
  • Constantly moving on, whether that be people or places
  • Holding grudges (still working on this) when someone is connected to something/someone that has wronged me in the past
  • The habit of “Talking Shit” when its really me seeking attention
  • Having knee jerk reactions to interactions before processing them
  • Following an impulse before taking a step back and thinking about what this impulse could lead me to (Also still working on this)
  • Avoiding deeper connections because I felt like it would either hold me back or hurt me one day
  • Using people’s past actions to paint the picture of who they are now

These are some of things I have or are in the process of unlearning and sometimes we should all ask ourselves what things did we learn that we should unlearn because it either wont serve us in a new period of life or it is not serving the people around us.

We have to unlearn some things to learn some things.
